Son Gual Golf Course Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands
Son Gual Golf Course was designed by Thomas Himmel, a three-time German Amateur Champion, and opened in October 2007 after four years of construction that moved over two million cubic metres of earth. Built at a reported cost of €30 million, it has ranked among Europe's top 100 courses consistently since opening and hosted the Son Gual Mallorca Senior Open in 2009, won by Ryder Cup player Mark James. The course carries its scale in everything from its huge teeing grounds to its 66 bunkers, including one enormous trap at the par-4 2nd that stretches roughly 240 metres. Around 800 olive trees and several man-made lakes run through the layout, water coming into play often enough to demand real course management. The par-5 18th closes the round in style, playing over two stretches of water to a green in front of the clubhouse, regularly rated one of the best finishing holes in Europe. T-Golf Palma (Ex Mallorca Park Puntiro) Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands
T-Golf Palma is the only course on Mallorca designed by Nicklaus Design, opening on 1 September 2006 as Golf Park Puntiró. In April 2022 it was acquired by the T Club group, also behind T Golf Calvia, renamed T Golf Palma, and put through a restoration project aimed at bringing the layout back toward Jack Nicklaus's original design. The par-71 course sits across roughly 165 acres of pine, olive and carob woodland, gently undulating and intelligently routed to face every point of the compass. Two large lakes create the course's signature tension at the 7th, 8th, 15th and 16th, tempting bold play with real risk attached. Away from the fairways, the rough is genuinely testing, with rocky outcrops and native vegetation punishing anything off-line, though accuracy matters more here than raw length. Maioris Golf Course Llucmajor, Balearic Islands
Maioris Golf Course was designed by German architect Dieter Cabus for developer Romeo Sala Massanaet, who also created Pula Golf Resort on Mallorca's north-east coast. Opened in 2006, it's one of the island's younger courses, set just 15 minutes from Palma among classic Mediterranean pine, olive and carob trees. The front nine plays wide, flat and largely Scottish in character; the back nine picks up length and slope for a tougher, more American-style finish. Four lakes and two island greens define the round: the par-5 4th, reachable in three for most golfers but unforgiving for anyone short, and the par-3 13th, its green set over water and guarded by a lone carob tree. Look out too for the 2nd hole, where a pine tree stands squarely in the middle of the fairway. The sea breeze is a near-constant companion given the course's coastal proximity.
