Capdepera Golf Course Capdepera, Balearic Islands
Capdepera Golf Course was designed by American architect Dan Maples and opened in 1989 in Mallorca's north-east, between the medieval town of Capdepera and the coast at Cala Ratjada. With no urbanisation attached to the course, it remains one of the more peaceful rounds on the island. The front nine plays across a valley that was once an almond plantation, wide and largely flat with the odd dogleg wrapped around one of the course's six lakes. The back nine climbs into the Llevant hills for a tougher, more scenic finish, culminating in the par-3 15th: repeatedly voted the most beautiful hole on Mallorca by Mallorca Magazine, a downhill shot to a green ringed by water and bunkers with panoramic views out to sea. Son Servera Golf Course Son Servera, Balearic Islands
Son Servera Golf Course was designed by John Harris and Francisco López Segalés, opening in 1967 as Mallorca's second golf course. A severe storm in 2001 destroyed some 2,000 of the original pine trees; members funded the replanting with olive trees that now line several holes, and in 2012 the course was extended from 9 to 18 with new holes designed by López Segalés. The front nine is the tighter test, narrow and tree-lined with the dogleg par-4 6th standing out as the signature hole and the 7th playing as the course's toughest stroke index. The back nine opens up considerably, wider and flatter with shorter rough. Water hazards come into play on seven holes throughout, and the large, subtly undulating greens are consistently praised for running true. Son Servera is also the only course on the island still owned and run by its own membership, rather than an external operator. Pula Golf Course Capdepera, Balearic Islands
Pula Golf Course was designed by Francisco López Segalés and opened in 1995, then completely redesigned between 2004 and 2006 by José María Olazábal, the Ryder Cup-winning European captain, to meet the demands of professional golf. The course has since hosted the Mallorca Classic on the European Tour eight times, with winners including Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Sergio García and Olazábal himself. The par-72, 6,246-metre layout is long and demanding by Mallorcan standards, with the green visible from the tee on 14 of the 18 holes. The par-4 5th is the signature moment: an elevated tee shot with a lake meandering along the right side of the fairway. Water comes into play across seven holes in total, and the course's tournament pedigree shows in how consistently the conditioning is praised. Facilities include a two-tier driving range, a golf academy run by Jaime Artiach, two putting greens and a full short-game area.
