La Estancia Golf Course Chiclana de la Frontera, Andalusia
La Estancia sits just 2.7 kilometres from La Barrosa beach in Chiclana de la Frontera, designed by the Dutch architect Alan Rijks, his first course in Spain. Opened in 2004 as Meliá Sancti Petri, the course changed hands in 2009 and underwent a significant reinvestment in 2014, re-emerging as La Estancia and establishing itself as one of the more distinctive courses in the area. The layout genuinely evokes traditional links golf, in the spirit of courses like St Andrews: flat, easy to walk, and set among newly planted and centuries-old olive trees, holm oaks and pines. Four brooks and three lakes come into play across the round, most notably guarding the green at the 9th, but it's the prevailing sea breeze that does the real work here, shaping club selection hole after hole in a way few other courses on this stretch of coast can match. More than 25 species of birds share the course with golfers, adding a genuinely natural feel to the round. The clubhouse, driving range and full practice facilities are all well regarded, and the restaurant has drawn particular praise from recent visitors. The Royal Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club was the first that the great Ballesteros designed in Spain. For many, it is his masterpiece. Real Novo Sancti Petri golf courses ''Pines & Sea'' and ''Centro'' and the driving range have been designed so that players can enjoy the whole philosophy of golf. Beginners and experts alike will notice the spirit of the famous Spanish golf champion in all its breadth. Sea & Pines - The first holes on this iconic course feature wide fairways, but players will have to deal with water hazards, the clubhouse and caddie shack, along with a tricky course through the pines. Real Novo Sancti Petri ''Centre'' Chiclana de la Frontera, Andalusia
Real Novo Sancti Petri Centro sits inland from the beach of La Barrosa in Chiclana de la Frontera, one of two 18-hole courses at a club that earned its Royal title in 2016. It was inaugurated on 12 December 1990 by Severiano Ballesteros himself, in a ceremony attended by Spanish royalty, and stands as the legendary Spaniard's first golf course design in Spain. Centro is the more inland and classically balanced of the resort's two layouts, a true par 72 split evenly between six par-3s, six par-4s and six par-5s, set across gently undulating ground with clear Atlantic views. Trees line several fairways and demand real accuracy, and Seve's fingerprints are unmistakable throughout, right down to the 18th, where an S-shaped bunker stands as his signature. Strategic rather than brutal, it rewards good course management over raw power. The clubhouse, driving range, academy and practice facilities are all well maintained and professionally run, and recent visitors have rated the course itself in excellent condition. For golfers who want to play a genuine piece of Seve Ballesteros's legacy, this is one of the most significant rounds on the Costa de la Luz. (...)
