Larrabea Golf Course sits on a 19th-century estate near Legutio in Álava, sixteen kilometres from Vitoria-Gasteiz, with views across the Urrunaga and Ullíbarri reservoirs. It's also where Jon Rahm first learned the game, a pedigree the club wears with quiet pride rather than fanfare.
José ''Pepe'' Gancedo designed the course in 1991, threading it through rolling parkland studded with mature trees, including sequoias preserved from the original estate. The layout rewards course management over raw power: creeks come into play on nearly every hole, greens run large and sloped, and the variety of holes means every club in the bag gets used before the round is out. The clubhouse itself is the estate's original 19th-century house, a rare piece of history to finish a round in.
A driving range, putting green and locker rooms are all on site, alongside a wider social club with pools and a gym for those extending the stay. For golfers who want a genuinely strategic Basque parkland course with a real story behind it, Larrabea is one to build a round around.

Very courteous and welcoming Proshop. Pace of play was OK (4hr 45mins), course was challenging but an unusual layout (too many blind shots that created bottlenecks, not to mention a danger of being hit at by the group behind who had no way of knowing if it was clear to hit). Course conditions were very average, lots of dirt, scrappy tee boxes and muddy fairways.
