Salinas de Antigua Golf Course

Salinas de Antigua Golf Course was designed by Manolo Piñeiro, twice a World Cup golf champion alongside Seve Ballesteros, and opened in 2006 on Fuerteventura's east coast. Built with an on-site desalination plant feeding four lakes across the layout, the course was shaped to sit lightly on its dune and desert surroundings, with sea views from sixteen of the eighteen holes.

The design rewards thought over power: firm, sizeable greens receive the ball differently to most courses on the island, and the desert waste areas and lake carries force a real choice between the safe line and the bold one on nearly every hole. Wind off the Atlantic adds another layer to the test. Guests consistently single out the greens as the strongest part of the round, holding their pace and truth even when other elements of the course are having a harder year.

Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, locker rooms and a putting green. Fairway conditioning has been inconsistent recently as the club works through a period of investment, so it's worth setting expectations accordingly, but the layout and the greens remain the reasons golfers keep coming back. A characterful, technical test in a genuinely different setting to the rest of the island.

A nice welcome and balls and trolley provided I was solo but paired myself up on the driving range They could maybe have done this The course was very dry and lacked fairways in places but I understood this The green were good though and the layout was testing I thought the layout better than the other course but quality not as good

I played this course last time about 6 years ago. Always an interesting challenge without pain. It is clear that economics are pressuring....nothing in the shop except 2 work desks. Buggies in the garage but can't be used. Greens and tees perfect condition, some bunkers need weeding, and sand. Water shortage has influenced certain fairways in places. I keep my fingers crossed that things can improve.
