Cabanillas Guadalajara Golf Course opened as nine holes in 1994, designed by Manuel Piñero, before a second nine was added roughly a decade later by Blake Stirling and Marco Martin of Global Golf — the same pairing behind Layos, near Toledo. Thirty minutes from central Madrid, it's become one of the region's most played courses, with genuinely different characters across its two halves.
Piñero's front nine plays wide and inviting, with water hazards that grow steadily more important as the round develops. Stirling and Martin's back nine, built on roughly half the land used for the front, is markedly more technical and demanding, starting from elevated tees that give a commanding view down into a well-defined valley. A large lake wraps around the 11th and 12th holes, and the par-three 16th brings a genuine island green into play, one of the course's signature moments. Dog-legs feature throughout, so a look at the course map before playing is worth the time.
Facilities include a driving range, academy, and locker rooms, at a club active enough to host regular tournaments and international competition. Book ahead for a genuinely varied round, easily reached from the capital.
